Terms of service
Last updated October 8, 2026
These terms apply to services provided by Storysloom ("we", "us") to you, the author or publisher ("you"). Your written quote, together with these terms, forms our agreement. If your quote says something different, the quote applies.
1. Services
We provide the services listed in your quote, such as editing, design, formatting, publishing setup, marketing, audiobook production or ghostwriting. Anything not listed in your quote isn't included unless we agree to it in writing.
2. Prices and payment
- Prices are in US dollars and are fixed once you accept your quote.
- Unless your quote says otherwise, you pay 50% before work starts and 50% before final files are delivered or your book is published. Larger projects may be split into milestone payments.
- We accept PayPal, Stripe, Zelle, Cash App, debit card, bank transfer and invoice.
- If a payment is more than 14 days late, we may pause work until it's received.
3. Your responsibilities
- You confirm that you own, or have permission to use, everything you send us, including your manuscript, images and quotes, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
- You'll give us the information and approvals we need. If we don't hear from you for 30 days, we may pause your project, and restarting may change its schedule.
- You're responsible for the content of your book and for checking the final files before you approve them.
4. Approvals and revisions
Design work (covers, illustration, formatting, trailers and websites) includes three rounds of revisions. Edits include one follow-up pass after you review them. Extra revision rounds cost $50 each, or as stated in your quote. Approving a stage means we move on to the next one.
5. Rights, ownership and royalties
- You keep all rights to your book. When your final payment is made, all rights to the work we create for you, including covers, illustrations, interior files, audio and copy, transfer to you, except licensed stock assets, which are licensed for use with your book.
- Your book is published on your own store accounts. All royalties are paid by the stores directly to you. We never take a share of your royalties.
- We won't show your book or our work on it in our portfolio or marketing without your written permission.
- For ghostwriting, your name appears as the author, and we won't claim authorship.
6. Confidentiality
We keep your manuscript and project details confidential and share them only with team members working on your project. We'll sign a separate confidentiality agreement on request.
7. Publishing platforms
Stores such as Amazon KDP and IngramSpark have their own terms and review processes, which we don't control. If a store rejects files because of an error in our work, we'll fix it at no cost. Store fees, printing costs, author copies and advertising spend are paid by you to the store or platform.
8. No guarantee of sales
We promise professional work delivered as described in your quote. We can't guarantee sales, rankings, reviews or awards, which depend on many things outside our control.
9. Cancellations and refunds
Cancellations and refunds follow our refund policy.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim related to our services is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in question. We aren't liable for indirect losses, such as lost sales or profits.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version in place when you accept your quote applies to your project.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina.
